- Ch 6Island Two is a 38 km long, 9 km wide fragment of land covered in forest, with artificial gravity of about a third Earth standard.
- Ch 6It has strange vegetation: purple tubing coils, petrified-looking ochre columns with sharp bristles, and rubbery brass-colored trees.
- Ch 9Island Two is a polyp reef whose gravity falls off toward the spires. It supports trees, fruit and a clean stream, but no sign of life or power.
- Ch 9The reef is a jungle of trees living in symbiosis with polyp coral, which feeds them and absorbs their rotted-leaf loam; trees grow with a four-meter gap beneath the branches.
- Ch 9Near the reef's center is a kilometer-wide clearing ringed by purple chimney-like polyp tubes venting white vapor, with a squat black pillar in the middle.
- Ch 9The pillar in the clearing is three meters tall, with diamond-filled symbols engraved around it that no one can read.
